Technical Scope, Pixel Watermarks vs. Container Headers & Regulatory Obligations
This document sets forth the technical scope, operational limitations, trademark disclaimers, and regulatory compliance notices applicable to the utilities provided by Clear AI Label (https://clearailabel.com).
1. Container Metadata vs. Pixel-Level Watermarks (SynthID)
It is technically important to distinguish between file container headers and pixel-domain steganography:
- What Clear AI Label Processes: Our utilities inspect and remove file-header metadata segments—including C2PA JUMBF superboxes (
APP11in JPEG,caBXin PNG), XMP RDF packets containingiptcExt:DigitalSourceTypetags, EXIF software and GPS tags, IPTC blocks, and PNG generation text chunks. - What Metadata Cleaners Do Not Do: Metadata tools do not alter invisible pixel-level watermarks (such as Google DeepMind SynthID) or bypass computer-vision pixel classifiers. Use our AI Watermark Checker to diagnose header tags versus pixel-spectrum signals.
2. European Union AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 — Article 52)
Under Article 52 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (EU AI Act), deployers of AI systems that generate or manipulate image, audio, or video content constituting a "deepfake" (or synthetic text/media published to inform the public on matters of public interest) must disclose that the content has been artificially generated or manipulated, with exceptions for standard assistive editing that does not substantially alter authentic footage.
Clear AI Label provides utilities to help photographers, designers, and businesses audit their files, protect personal GPS privacy, and resolve false-positive labeling caused by routine assistive edits (such as noise reduction, lens correction, or dust removal). Users remain solely responsible for complying with mandatory disclosure laws in their jurisdiction when publishing synthetic media of public interest.
